I realize now that my question was overly broad, and the different types of privacy (from government, from corporations, from friends, from strangers...) can't be lumped together for the sake of argument. And yet you still managed to cover all of them in your points, which is great.
Seconded, thanks for writing this. I especially like point 5, because I hear people and corporations use the "if you've done nothing wrong" argument all the time.
