Rumour: Google Intends to Discontinue the Android Open Source Project (osnews.com)

I genuinely wonder how much AOSP needs from Google nowadays.

I mean, the convergence stuff (Dex-thingy) sounds good: it would be great to plug an Android device to a docking station and use it as a computer.

Other than that... what is Google bringing that is not proprietary already? Genuinely asking, I don't know. I can't say that my Android is different today than it was 10 years ago.

AVF based on pKVM contribution by Google to mainline Linux, shipped in recent Android 15 as Debian Linux "Terminal" VM, https://source.android.com/docs/core/virtualization & https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41816756
