Do you struggle with anxiety in general? This sounds like a symptom of a bigger problem.

First step is cut out all drugs (yes even our beloved alcohol). As a depressant it might work in the short term, for the same reason long term it will make things worse.

Toastmasters is a good idea. Have you tried talking to a therapist?

How do you fence stolen gasoline? Is there a black market for the stuff?

Even if you got away with this, you're looking at $2000-$4000 in profit? Seems hardly with the risk (even if you're not concerned with ethics). Not to mention you have to safely store 800 gallons of gas somewhere.

> "They just open the pump for them automatically," said Mo, the gas station owner.

> FOX 2: "And then cars just keep coming up and filling up?"

> "Yeah they meet up with them and tell them to come over here," he said.

It sounds like they find paying customers, then have the customers go get the gas from the unlocked pump. So essentially they are running a black market gas station within the actual gas station.

Is pinball seeing a resurgence in popularity?

A friend of mine is internationally ranked, and he started out much like the author:

> What if I built a wall cutting it in half and built a pinball room in the resulting new room

Their small apartment is now full of pinball machines, tools and parts

It definitely is!

In the last 5 years or so I've seen the amount of pinball spots in my area go from about 3 to 10+

I've also seen a LOT of new people showing up (and getting really good!). Regular tournaments/league nights have tripled since the pandemic.

The "resurgence" has been going on for 20 years! Not sure what to call it these days other than a fun expensive hobby...

> we recommend Microsoft Word

Which now costs $159.99?!

Which is $0 if you're the kind of person to use Google Docs and GMail and other free web services: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/free-office-on...

Of course. Breaking every tracking script that marketers try to share is hard work! And you laugh now, but wait until they roll out Clippy GPT-4 edition.

Like a train switching tracks! I never noticed.

So what does ⌘ represent?

That you are using a mac? I ised to still call it the super or windows button, because my macbook ran linux. This whole article is mac centric, but it doesn't seem aware of that. Most keyboards don't have the switch symbol, most just say alt, and its where the mac has the command key.

> This whole article is mac centric, but it doesn't seem aware of that.

I found it pretty clear from the title, site affiliation disclaimer, background image, section headers, language, and overall theme of the article. What's misleading you?

“Place of interest sign,” according to the Unicode spec. Also, command key and OS key as secondary meanings.

Apparently it is "Command" but also the Swedish campground symbol?

It is on Swedish road signs indicating a sight/attraction/monument, usually an ancient one. It is a stylised ribbon/snake pattern that resembles one that you could find on a rune stone. <https://xn--vgmrken-5wac.se/tag/sevardhet/>

A variation of the symbol is also the symbol for the National Heritage Board, which is in charge of protection of ancient monuments.

The road sign for "Camp ground" has a stylised tent: <https://xn--vgmrken-5wac.se/tag/campingplats/>

A castle.

> Susan Kare states that she has since been told that the symbol was picked for its Scandinavian usage due to its resembling the shape of a square castle with round corner towers as seen from above looking down, notably Borgholm Castle.

So what does ⌘ represent?

The revisionist history is that it's a Swedish map symbol repurposed.

People who were there will tell you that it's called "double infinity" and was used because the regular infinity symbol lacked visual weight and it was thought might be too similar to other keys.

Susan Kare selected the symbol herself. I wouldn't exactly call her explanation "revisionist".

Macintosh Folklore disagrees. That's literally as close to "people who were there" as one can get.

Interesting. Though I'm curious why infinity was even a consideration in the first place.

That part I don't know. Maybe just because it's geeky, and the original Mac team was certainly that; even the ones involved in its physical design.

A propeller. On the early prototypes of the Mac, that key was used to fire the torpedoes.

Thanks for sharing. I'm considering VNS but frankly I'm terrified of complications and recovery time.

Operation was in-and-out of hospital in one day. Then had a big cellophane-like bandage on neck and shoulder area that had to be kept clean and air-tight for 2 weeks. It was a good bandage though, just had to patch it up occasionally with new layers of cellophane-stuff. Main possible complication would be infection (worse case is that device then has to be removed) or some people have side effect where it feels like their throat is ticked and they cough when device activates. We didn't have any problems.

Then once its all healed they turn the device using nfc wand thing and then slowly increase the power bit by bit over several months. There are various timing and frequency settings that can be experimented with.

This is really interesting!

I have struggled with an issue during meditation for several years now. I get to a certain point and it feels like my body/mind is going to relax, but instead I get this intense rising feeling up into the back of my throat, followed by an itching sensation that causes me to cough, and break out of the moment. Extremely frustrating!!

I wonder what is going on with my vagus nerve.

Word, remember the world before the hockey puck mouse? Strange to think we used to shape those like a human hand.

> You’d better know how to touch type. The Cyrillic-ish alphabet designed for Acronym by Rudnick is all part of the theme

Any high res photos of the keys/lettering?

Simply conserving battery life?

And according to the article iPhone users that thought their Bluetooth was turned off were vulnerable to attacks; that's not a superstition.

Turning off WiFi makes your battery life worse, because you'll forget to turn it back on.

Even if you're not joined to anything, it doesn't matter. The cellular antenna is the only one that uses any significant power.

> Turning off WiFi makes your battery life worse, because you'll forget to turn it back on

What? (I'm not OP)

Turning off Wi-Fi makes your battery life worse [because the cellular radio uses significantly more energy and you'll forget to turn it back on when you're around Wi-Fi again].

I don't use WiFi and Bluetooth frequently. I use mobile data on iOS and wired connection with macOS. Probably I'm too old now and this way of connecting devices is now a niche :)

The battery will last months if it's turned off "all the way". I think needing many months, away from a charger, is a very very niche use case.
