What about all the drivers who take major risks daily by playing with their phones? This makes even legal speeds dangerous, at least these guys were looking ahead and aware of their situation.
It is possible to map most controls in a DAW via MIDI and possibly provide a touch interface, or more tactile controls (sliders and knobs). Live looping for example, only requires a few foot switches.
Some painful combo of Trumpet Winsock/Win 3.1/Netscape at that time if I wanted more than just lynx, all received via xmodem from the local ISPs shell server using Telix. No Google, maybe help from the local NNTP group.
I do remember this project, and using it for maybe a few weeks. They did track seeds and watering, there were limits to prevent a specific area from being watered too frequently. I don't remember much else.
This is forgetting university students who often had non-dialup access to the Net from computer labs (I even had access to the Net, which was basically just telnet, ftp, and Usenet, in the late 1980s as an undergrad).
Of course it needs that permissions, that's how it works. If you can't make an informed decision then don't do it but otherwise it's no different than doing anything as root or administrator on your PC. Sometimes you need to run with elevated permissions to get something done.
I have had to, on the opposite end, had an Uber take me home/cancel after a few miles because the previous rider had been wearing thick perfume and it was too cold for the driver to drive around with all the windows open. If someone with pet allergies responds the same way I did in a closed environment, I have sympathy for them.
